Grants

Who can submit a dossier, and for what?

All artists who are members of Sabam and can prove that they regularly and professionally practice an artistic activity in the domain of the visual arts can submit an application dossier for a Sabam visual arts grant.

What conditions are linked to these grants?

The Sabam grants for visual arts are awarded at the recommendation of an internal commission consisting of three persons.

In order to be considered, the artist must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Be a member of Sabam
  • The author may only submit one application every 2 years
  • Each project can only receive one grant; grants are not cumulable

What does such a dossier have to contain?

The application dossier for a Sabam visual arts grant must contain the following documents:

  • A letter with a description of the project in which the artist presents and gives reasons for his application and states which grant he is applying for
  • An artistic CV + biography
  • The following identity data: Surname, first name / full postal address / e-mail address / bank account number / national registry number

What grants are there?

Per calendar year:

  • 2 “artist in residence” grants each with a value of EUR 1,500, intended predominantly for specialised organisations (e.g. Wiels,…). This means a budget of EUR 3,000
  • 2 publication grants each with a value of EUR 3,000, of which EUR 1,500 for the artist and EUR 1,500 for the publisher. This means a budget of EUR 6,000
  • 1 multimedia grant with a value of EUR 1,500. The total budget is therefore also EUR 1,500.
  • 2 export grants (transport of an exhibit, etc.) each with a value of EUR 1,500. This means a total budget of EUR 3,000

Practical calendar

Four conferences are planned per year to analyse the dossiers and to reach a decision: End of January, end of May, end of August and end of October.

The application dossiers must be sent to Salvador Ferreira, Aarlenstraat 75/77, 1040 Brussels, in one copy by 15 October at the latest.

After each conference of the commission, the candidates will be informed by e-mail of the decisions.
