Within the familiar home for authors that SABAM is and wants to remain, a new haven has been created for our audiovisual, literary and theatre authors and visual artists. Welcome to ARTES!
The idea of the new entity within our authors' association developed from the need for a more personalised approach. Everything can get better: SABAM strives for a continuous improvement in its services. The strength of SABAM is used and increased within ARTES: The visual artists, the audiovisual, literary and theatre authors receive the service they need: Constant striving for quality with fast and accurate accounting, strong lobbying, a worldwide base thanks to international networks, a great affinity for the authors, art and culture and optimum representation at the political level.
In concrete terms ARTES allows a tailored approach for our authors from the disciplines indicated. The separate name ARTES has been chosen to make it clear to our authors that we are there for them and that SABAM has created something special for them.
The multidisciplinarity remains one of SABAM's biggest assets. The Board of Directors and the colleges at SABAM in which all the branches of art are represented continue to watch over the solidarity between and the autonomy of the disciplines.
The historical role of SABAM, the collection and distribution of authors' royalties, naturally remains important for the start-up of ARTES. We are not a financial institution that purely “executes”; we offer services with an affinity for the artist himself and his specific needs. The authors are therefore supported by a team of specialists who know their sector and their authors better than anyone else. Werner Strouven is responsible for theatre, Marleen Francois for the audiovisual sector and Salvador Ferreira for literature and the visual arts. With ARTES we underline the central role of our authors.
