Are there any exceptions to reproduction rights?

Yes. Under the Belgian Code of Economic Law, there are three exceptions under which an author cannot oppose a reproduction:

• Reporting on current events

You may use short excerpts from works, or reproduce works of visual art in full, when reporting on current events.

• Promotion of exhibitions or public sales

You may reproduce and communicate works to the public for the purpose of promoting an exhibition or public sale, insofar as this is necessary for that event.

• Quoting a work

You may use an excerpt from a work for purposes such as criticism, polemics, review, teaching or scientific research.

Condition: you must always mention the source and the name of the author.

Important: these exceptions are interpreted and applied strictly.
