What happens to my authors' rights when I pass away?

Authors' rights remain valid for 70 years after your death. They are transferred to your heirs or to the person(s) you have designated in advance.

Your next of kin must provide a document confirming the identity of the heirs, such as:

• a certificate of inheritance issued by a notary;

• or, if no notary is involved, a certificate of succession issued by the Belgian Federal Public Service Finance.

Do you have multiple heirs? If so, they must appoint a representative. This person will represent them before Sabam, become a member, and receive the authors' rights royalties in order to distribute them among the heirs.
