What rights do I have as an author?
As an author, you have two types of rights: economic rights and moral rights.
Economic rights relate to the use and exploitation of your work:
- Reproduction right: the right to authorise the copying or adaptation of your work (e.g. on a CD, in a book, as a download, in a translation, etc.)
- Performance right: the right to authorise the performance or communication of your work to the public (e.g. at a concert, through a broadcast or on the internet)
- Resale right: the right to receive a percentage of the sale price when an original visual artwork is resold
Moral rights protect you as the creator:
- Right of disclosure: you decide whether and when your work is made public
- Right of attribution: you may require or refuse to be identified as the author of your work
- Right of integrity: you may object to modifications that could harm your honour or reputation
