Statutory licenses

Are your musical works being copied onto paper or digital media? If so, you are entitled to statutory compensation. Through the reprography and private copying compensation system, we ensure that a portion of that value is paid to you.

Publishing your musical works

To receive these royalties, it is important that you promptly report the publication of your musical works to Sabam.

Are your lyrics or musical works being published - digitally or in print? If so, you must register these publications. You can also receive royalties when your published works are copied.

Publications
When should you report your publications?

You should list your publications in the following cases:

  • Your musical works or song lyrics are published in print or digitally

  • Your published works are copied (for example, via printing, scanning, or digital reuse)

How do statutory licenses work?

Sabam receives these royalties through two collective management organisations and pays them to you based on your declaration.
Reprobel

Reprobel collects the reprography fee from professional users in the private and public sectors. This applies to making photocopies of your works, as well as to printing, scanning, and digital reuse. In addition, educational and research institutions pay a fee for the use of publications in print and on digital media.

Auvibel

Auvibel collects the private copying levy from manufacturers, importers, and intra-community purchasers of devices or media used to make copies for private use by individuals.

How is your reimbursement calculated?

The compensation you’re entitled to depends on various factors, such as:

  • the type of publication (print or digital)

  • the number of authors, translators, and/or editors

  • the number of pages or characters

 

Report your publications on time via MySabam

Easily register your publications via MyPublications, the online application in your MySabam account.

  • Publications from 2025: report by September 30, 2026

  • Publications from 2026: must be reported by September 30, 2027

⚠️ Publications reported after this deadline are not eligible for compensation.
