Inheriting Copyrights

Was a family member a member of Sabam? If so, the copyrights to their works can continue to generate income even after their death. These rights remain protected for up to 70 years and are transferred to the heirs or the designated beneficiary or beneficiaries.

What do we need from you?
Information:
- the first name and last name of the Sabam member
- the date of death
- your contact information
Documents:
- a certificate of inheritance (drawn up and signed by a notary) or a certificate of inheritance (to be requested from the registration office of the FPS Finance in the deceased’s place of residence or via MyMinfin)
- a front-and-back copy of your ID card
Are there multiple heirs?
If so, choose one representative (authorized representative) to represent the heirs in dealings with Sabam. That person will become a member of Sabam, receive the royalties, and then distribute them among the heirs.
Also include a front-and-back copy of the representative’s ID card.
