Private copying is a fee for authors to compensate for copies of their digital works made by third parties for their own use. Think of copying music or films to an external hard disk or laptop.
The private copying fee is invoiced on media and devices that can be used for private copying, such as smartphones, tablets, memory cards, CDs and DVDs.
