Cable right

For each public performance or display of works, you require the author’s permission.

However, the Belgian copyright law of 30 June 1994 does not assign any performing rights for public events such as exhibitions of visual works or film screenings, for instance in museums. The right to exhibit a visual work no longer belongs to the author, but to the owner because of his ownership.

The law does however assign public broadcasting rights for television broadcasts transmitted by cable. Sabam has entered into agreements with the cable companies in this matter and distributes these rights among its members.

The distribution of the cable rights takes place every year in November.
