3 Misconceptions about becoming a member

What does Sabam (not) do for you?

  • Sabam does not protect your work.

We do make sure you receive a fee when your work is used in public, e.g. on stage, on the radio or television, online, etc.

  • Sabam manages your copyrights for all types of works:

    • music
    • audiovisual
    • theatre & dance
    • literature
    • visual arts

  • If you are a performer or producer, it is not useful for you to become a member of Sabam.

This is because you do not receive copyrights, but related rights. Please visit the website of PlayRight or SIMIM for more information.

Sabam membership offers many benefits:

Each year, about 1,000 artists entrust Sabam with the management of their authors’ rights.

Just like your art, Sabam knows no borders. We manage your works in Belgium and in all the countries where we are represented. Are you giving a concert? Will your work be broadcast on radio or television? Or will your music or film be streamed? We do what is necessary for the management of your rights. So you can fully concentrate on the creative!

Please note there is no point in joining Sabam if your works are not (yet) used or performed.

Be sure to create an online account during your affiliation. This way you can see which works were used and how much you will earn.

Create your personal space, as more than 17.000 satisfied authors have done before you.

Any questions? We can be reached by phone every working day.

Good to know: via your online account you can also register your new works and share your playlists with us quickly and easily after an event.

Are you an all-round artist who is not limited to one artistic discipline? Good! Neither are we.

Sabam manages the authors’ rights of musical, audiovisual, literary, theatrical, choreographic works and works of visual art.

Suppose one day you create a completely different type of work. No problem! We remain your single point of contact and can also manage the rights of this new work at no extra cost. This is unique in Belgium. It simplifies the management of all your creations and reduces costs.

Through Sabam for Culture, we support more than 500 cultural activities each year with all sorts of grants and prizes.
